Essence 30th Festival, commonly known as EssenceFest, is an annual music festival that celebrates African American culture and music. The festival is organized by Essence Communications, a media company that primarily targets BIPOC women. The fun and excitement starts July 4th through 8th.
Held in New Orleans, Louisiana, the Essence Festival started in 1995 as a one-time event to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Essence, a magazine geared towards black and brown women. Due to its success and popularity, the Essence Festival became an annual event. Over the years, it has grown into one of the largest cultural events in the United States celebrating African American music, culture, and empowerment.
The Essence Festival typically spans a weekend and features a mix of musical performances, empowerment seminars, cultural showcases, and community events. The festival brings together a diverse lineup of musical acts, including R&B, hip-hop, jazz and gospel artists. The festival takes place in various venues across the city, with the Louisiana Superdome (now known as the Caesars Superdome) serving as the main stage for headline musical performances.
